Biologically caused that person aspires to something when experiencing a particular need. If we do not need it, we do not pay for this item, event or person any attention. The world around us, it's an imprint in our brain, in which we set ourselves accents.
The instinct of survival, struggle for existence, gives people the opportunity to develop. Trying to overcome life's difficulties, we are getting better, and it is from here went the phrase "does not kill us makes us stronger."
To date, the most powerful stimulus for the development, is death. A healthy reaction to the awareness of their own mortality, is an attempt to overcome it, or push as far as possible. The most obvious example of what man aspires to live, is a medicine. If death does not strike terror in the people who would never have arisen the need, if not improving, the preservation of health of our bodies.
Sigmund Freud, a great part of his life, proved that the main role in a person's identity, act out of instinct. It was only after forty years, at the end of life, Freud revised his theory, and gave priority to human consciousness.
Instincts help us to survive in a particular situation. In part, they are influenced by our desire to be immortal. But can a creature without instincts, feel the need in life?
At the time of writing - no. Post-man devoid of instincts, it is a piece of cloth or a force field, which is unable to absolutely anything. Evolution should provide or save (or create a high control) instincts or their equivalent.

In any case, getting rid of the fear of death, a person loses a significant element of providing for development.
